Allison Tartalia named 2004 Outmusic Awards presenter

Singer-songwriter Allison Tartalia has been named a presenter for the Fourth Annual Outmusic Awards. Tartalia won the award for the best female debut album in 2003 and has since had a whirlwind year of recordings and concerts.

New York, NY June 7, 2004-- Allison Tartalia has been named a presenter for the Fourth Annual Outmusic Awards (OMAs), Outmusic announced this week. Tartalia will present the OMA for Outstanding New Recording Female at the June 13 ceremony at New Yorks Knitting Factory. Nominees in that category are Namoli Bennett, Catie Curtis, KJ Denhert, Janis Ian, and Pamela Means. This will mark Tartalias first appearance as an OMA presenter.

A recipient of last years OMA for outstanding debut recording female, Tartalia has become a familiar face on the independent and LGBT music scenes. Her debut album Ready shared the top honors last year with Tarey Wolfs Magnificent Obsession. In addition to presenting the award at the ceremony, Tartalia will perform one of her new tunes at the nominee showcase the night before, to be held June 12th at Fez. Tartalia is set to release a CD-single with two new dance versions of her song Advent Of You, remixed by fellow Outmusic artists *V*I*R*G*O* and Aaron Carl.

Its been a busy year for the self-made artist. Since her OMA win, Tartalia has been a featured artist in multiple publications, including She Magazine, Go NYC, HX, San Diego Update, and Cincinnatis CIN Weekly. In late March, Tartalia signed a distribution deal with Goldenrod Music making her albums available at indie music stores nationwide. She briefly toured around New England in April with fellow singer-songwriter Elisa Peimer and was a featured artist on the May release of Outmusic: Hot and Sweet, a compilation of last years OMA winners and Outmusic members. Tartalias dance card is also full this summer, as shell be performing solo and with her band all around the northeast in July and August, followed by a southern tour to support the debut of Music For Life: Volume I, an indie compilation to support the American Cancer Society. She and her album-mates will hit the stage in North Carolina to raise more funds for ACS, in addition to the thousands theyve already raised in the first month of album sales.

Dubbed a singer with a sultry voice by Marc Santora of The New York Times, Tartalia has built a following at favorite New York locales such as Sidewalk CafDowntime, Fez, and the Knitting Factory. A mixture of rock, jazz, folk and pop, Tartalias debut album Ready has been the subject of much critical praise: Chuck Eddy of The Village Voice raved, "Wonder of wonders, this native New Yorker's debut CD sounds legitimately more jazzy than folky--smack-dab in the Laura Nyro/Ricki Lee Jones/Sophie B. Hawkins lineage. Songs from the album are being played on radio stations around the nation. The OMAs are presented by Outmusic, an international network of LGBT performers, composers, producers, media and other supporters of LGBT music. Award winners were chosen by a select panel of judges, including talent agents, radio DJs, print journalists, and other music and media professionals. This years nominees include Rufus Wainwright, Girlyman, and the Boston Gay Mens Chorus.
